You have reached the information site of the Global Village Project 2008. In 2005 and 2006 United Games, in close partnership and cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences, in Graz successfully organised and developed the Global Village Project.

In 2006 we linked and united more than 20 youth-led development action projects through internet. These projects took place simultaneously in Austria, Czech Republic, England, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia in EUROPE, in Russia, India and Pakistan in ASIA, in Malawi, Sierra Leone and South Africa in AFRICA, in Ecuador and Peru in South America and in Canada in North America between 28th May and 4th June 2006.

Because of the great success in 2005 and in 2006 we will continue with the Global Village Project in 2007. We will also increase the number of Action Projects and countries participating in the week-long youth led action event, which will take place from 10th – 17th February 2008.

There is still place for you and your Action Project!
We still have room for Youth Led Development Action Projects in 2008 for 4 - 6 additional countries. Action Projects that wish to join from any country and any region of the world are welcome.

What you have to do if you want to join
Go onto the register link on this website, fill out the application form and send it to us. In December 2007 you will be informed if your application was accepted and that you and your youth initiative or NGO and your local Action Project are part of the Global Village Project 2008. The Action Project which you wish to submit for the Glaobal Village Project, should follow the guidelines of the Be the Change Programme, and should be in line and support the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.

Your participation in the Global Village Project 2008 will be free of any charge!

Youth initiatives and groups in the following countries are already taking part with their Action Projects in 2008.

The countries mentioned above will simultaneously perform youth led action projects from 10th – 17th February 2008, and will be coordinated through internet at the Global Village Village Project - Mission Control Centre (MCC) at the University of Applied Sciences in Graz, Austria.

A Window to the World for Action Projects
Every evening during the Global Village Project - Action Week the Action Projects in the participating countries will send pictures, video clips and texts about what they did and had achieved throughout the day onto the Global Village Village Project Website.

At the Mission Control Center (MCC), which is based at the University of Applied Sciences (FH JOANNEUM) in Graz, Austria (Europe) students from the departments of Internet Technology, Journalism and Organisational Communication and the Institute for Geography and Environmental Science of Graz University will edit and lay out the incoming material from the various projects in the different participating countries.

Every evening, the MCC will upload the results from the various Action Projects onto the Global Village Project Website. The students and young people working at the Global Village Project – Mission Control Centre will also produce a press release about what happened in the various countries, translate the press release into the various languages and send it out to local, regional and national press and media in the participating countries.

In the different countries, the results sheets can be downloaded, printed and presented as an exhibition about all the Action Projects of all the countries. This exhibition will be opened simultaneously in all participating countries at the end of the Global Village Project - Action Week.

The young people involved in the Action Projects can communicate at any time with their peers at the MCC in Graz, Austria (Europe) through chat rooms, "Skype" an online telephone possibility and through an internet discussion forum.
